garden | wild strawberries

wonderfully wild... We have oodles of wild strawberries randomly tossing their trailers all about our lawn and along our wood's edge. It got to the point where they were getting downright invasive, popping up like little weeds throughout my garden beds. For a few years I tried to fight back, but last year I decided to embrace them and their dazzling little treats.
I began to pluck up the stray strawberry plants and give them their own patch to frolic in. So far it is paying off in tiny, delicate pops of sweetness. I keep planning on harvesting them in one big batch and drying them, but it really is impossible. You just automatically munch on them as soon as you pluck them. But should I ever get the will power to resist long enough to actually incorporate them into a recipe, the top on my list would be wild strawberry jam.

I highly recommend you hold out for jam. My grandmother used to make it and the flavor was like no other...

Allison, Don't you just love those wild strawberries? They grow all over my property, too, and I long ago decided to give them a place of their own in the garden. I find that I can only get 1/4-1/2 cup of them on any given day, so I mostly add their intense flavor to my breakfast cereal; although I can occasionally get a full cup and make muffins with them. Yum! -Jean

Allison - those little strawberries sure would look good on top of a homemade cheesecake! (we won't even talk about the amazing flavor!!); great post! -Shyrlene

How lucky you are to have wild strawberries invade your garden! It sounds like they are not that much of a nuisance. :)

i want to hold out for the jam Nicole, really i do, but it will take SUCH willpower. but i shall try because the jam would probably be incredible.

topping cheesecake with these little sugary treats is a perfect idea! it's also a perfect excuse to make a cheesecake so i love the concept even more!
