Yes, Hummingbird Moth, aren't they amazing? We are lucky enough to have those here in North Idaho, but no Luna Moths, and I do miss those! Love your pic, and the blog!
hi there Eleanor. that flower is a meadow phlox. i pillaged a few from the roadside last summer. it was so nice to see them return this spring. they border the woods very nicely.
So great to know its name at last! We've called them "bug hummingbirds" for lack of knowing the real name. Guess we weren't far off. WoW! Beautiful shot!

I LOVE these guys ... hummingbird (looks like clearwing/hawk) moth. I saw my first one in Maine on my sage. They are awesome. I hope to see some here.
