sunday snow... This past Sunday brought the first true snowfall of the season. I harvested the last of my veggies on Saturday, just in the nick of time prior to the blanket of white placing a much needed natural mulch over my beds.

The whiskey barrels and trellises of my herb and perennial patch pop in the snow. I always use the barrels as my snowfall barometer. Before you know it, you won't be able to even tell they are out there, buried under feet of snow.

This view, from my kitchen window, makes doing the dishes that much more pleasurable and it only gets that much better as you watch the snowflakes cascade down onto the birches.

What is your average snowfall? Does it ever melt and go away during winter, or do you have it, once it has fallen on your garden?
I love the look that snow produces. All clean and peaceful looking. Thanks for sharing.
hi Janie! as long as we have lived around here, the snow never gets a chance to melt before the next storm comes by. in fact, it snowed again yesterday and there is another storm coming tomorrow. basically, we don't see the ground again until deep into the spring. two years ago, i still had patches of snow on my garden beds in early May.
Beautiful! We had a long mild fall and now we are in for winter for the long haul. Enjoy!
I bet it's freezing and a real pain for some people in your neighbourhood but I'd be turning cartwheels if I was there. There's something magical about snow and your view is amazing. Enjoy it and I expect to see a snowman post later on in the week :o)
That photo of the view from your kitchen window looked so familiar; it could almost be the view from my kitchen window -- birches, hemlocks, some tall white pines in the background, and dark trunks of what look like they might be maples or oaks. I, too, enjoy the winter view. -Jean
Very pretty post! You do have a great view out your window. We used to live in Denver and I do miss the snow. Now, we live in Austin. We actually got about 20 minutes of snow the other day...didn't last.
How I would love to your backyard view. It's beautiful. And, thankfully you dug out the good veggies just in time!
I love the view out your window! I have lots of snow right now, too, but it should melt by January or February. More could fall, though.
Great photos!
