Less than two weeks away... Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I just love the whole ritual of delighting in a slowly cooked feast with good friends and family. I'll be hosting the feastivities this year and I cannot wait!

Mind you, this changes slightly on a daily basis, but right now I'm seeing the main meal come together as such: herb-brined, slow roasted turkey stuffed with a sausage, cippolini and almond stuffing and served with roasted brussels sprouts and pancetta, and buttermilk smashed potatoes.

I'm going to keep the table settings pretty organic and easy. Everyone will have a mix and match place setting of random cloth napkins, dishes and silverware that I have collected over the years. I'll incorporate our plethora of gourds into place cards and centerpieces.

Rather than flowers, I'll snipped some dried tips of our corn stalks and place in some pewter pieces. We keep it pretty mellow with a nice slow graze throughout the day that culminates into our Thanksgiving ritual of dessert in the family room while watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I sigh whenever I look at your pictures (with utter contentment).
BTW what kind of camera do you use. I want to get a DSLR but they are so pricey and I am just starting in photography. I don't want to make a mistake and get something that I would need to have alot of prior knowledge on.
aw, thanks!! in my dreams of dreams i'd own a nice SLR with an amazing megapixel ability and a few lenses to toss about. but my reality is that i have a pretty basic camera that would work great for someone who would like to just use a point and shoot or if you are looking to have some basic SLR options. i use a Fuji FinePix S700. i've played around with a bunch of other cameras and for the cost, i'm pretty pleased with it.
your table already looks perfect, Thanksgiving is my favorite as well. Love how you end the day with Christmas Vacation!
The place settings are lovely. What a great, creative idea. Who, pray tell, has that fabulous handwriting? Great photos too.
I cruise through a lot of food photography blogs..you do more with yours then most people do with the super expensive kinds. I am finding that lighting is a huge deal...and a steady hand lol. I'm trying to photograph with a Kodak Easy Share....
I want a seat at your table! It looks beautiful. I also really enjoy Thanksgiving. Too bad the world of retail no longer follows the old rule "Christmas FOLLOWS Thanksgiving."
thanks Christine. good lighting is definitely crucial and by far trumps the quality of camera. i only shoot in natural light. that can become a problem up here in the winter when it gets dark out by 4pm.
hiya Miss Fern! that's why i love Thanksgiving... no exchange of presents, simply a gathering together to celebrate friends and family. the food part isn't too shabby either.
