recipe | homemade applesauce

homemade applesauce is as easy as 1, 2, 3... When life gives you apples, make applesauce! We go through a lot of applesauce in my house, so I always look forward to fall when I can easily whip up a few batches with freshly-picked apples to get us through winter and spring.

If you can make mashed potatoes, then you can make applesauce. Follow the simple directions below and you'll been noshing on some tasty applesauce in less than an hour.

Homemade Applesauce

3-4 lbs of apples, peeled, cored, and cut into large wedges.

3 1.5" strips of lemon peel

Juice of one lemon

1 cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon to taste

1/4 c light brown sugar (can use more or less depending on your preference)

1/4 c white sugar (can use more or less depending on your preference)

dash of salt

Toss everything into a saucepan and cover. Bring to boil and then simmer for 30 minutes. Throw away the cinnamon stick and lemon peels. Mash with potato masher or wooden spoon.

Serve or freeze for storing.

This look delicious! Somehow I always end up with apples in my fruit basket that get mushy before they get a chance to be eaten! Next time I will try this before I throw them out!
